Saturday I went to a photographer meet up where we all brought one photo and the group critiqued it. Very nice and helpful bunch. Then the usual grocery shopping, and using a few of Mr. Lavenders gift cards for his birthday. He got two books and two CD's. He is quite happy with both.
Books are: the Year of Living Biblically
and The secular Conscience
CD: Spiritualized newest as well as the newest Mogwai

Sunday was my breathing workshop at the Yoga studio. It was very informative, but I guess I wanted more. I am very glad I attended, but I guess I wanted her to say "use this breathing technique for better focus, for relaxation, for anxiety" She left us with a hand out of about 10+ books and I plan on looking into this. One of those books should answer my questions!
Now for an explanation of my title. As most of you know, I am a tall gal. Not too terribly tall, as I have been shrinking. I am now 5'10" in stead of 5'11" and three quarters. When I graduated high school I was a quarter of an inch under six feet tall. I think I am starting to stretch back out again due to yoga and a more relaxing lifestyle. Anyways, most of my height is my legs. I have very long legs, and they are quite chickeny too. It seems that the longer legged pants are made for a larger waistband, ignoring my size 8, because people size 8 and below cannot possibly have long legs, they have shorter legs of course.
My solution for this in high school was of course tights and shorts or skirts, or my Doc martin boots covering my ankles where pants did not. Now, I have found a small handful of stores that make long jeans. Gap is one of them. See the photo to the left? My toes are nearly covered! This thrills me more than you can know. AND I only paid $14 for that pair of pants!
I have always had a very hard time finding yoga pants, or sweat pants that were long enough. I have three pairs of sweats that are long enough for public viewing. the rest make me look so super goofy that only my husband and cats get to see this silliness. I am proud to say that I now have a new store to shop at for the long yoga pants. Target. It seems Target is embracing the plight of the long legged gal. I saw in an advertisement for the C9 sport pants that they offered them in three lengths, short, reg, long. I was hopeful, but not too hopeful as some stores long size is 33". I need a 35" inseam to cover my ankles, 36" ideally to go to my heals. So I went to the rack holding the long yoga pants and held them up to my waist, the legs covered my shoes! SQUEEE!! They are long enough!!! I bought myself one pair. Expanding my public yoga pant collection to 4! Then if that was not enough, I was walking down the main aisle and looked down another lined with bras and panties, and at the end of those facing me were the longest tall striped socks I had ever seen! I ran to them (because Mr' L was already getting bored inside target, have to make these trips QUICK! or he gets really cranky) I had to get them, they were titled "above the knee" and folks, they really do come above my knee! They are SO pretty. I am adding them to my christmas list, a $5 gift is a great gift for me!
So I am here in my computer chair with thick warm yoga pants on and tall striped socks covering my knees. I am so cozy right now. Thanks Target! Now lets extend this tall pant thing to the jeans and pants okay?
We visited Heartshapedsky and her lovely family. Portland is Gorgeous in the Fall!!! SO many leaves!!!! They were piled more than a foot deep in some places, I wanted to leap out of the car and jump in the piled, kick them around and hear them crunching below my feet. The smell is incredible! The sky was speckled with clouds and the sun shined on our bodies as we walked along the river and across the bridges. E, Heartshapedsky's 4 year old son and I searched for treasures along the path. We found chestnuts, the tops of the nuts, some rocks and some fallen stars. SO much treasure! We saw helicopters and birds, riverboats and sailboats, speedboats and barges. Those treasures were much too big to fit in his cargo pants pockets.
We also attended a small art fair inside someones house. There were 6 artists, three of them were photographers. I picked up their cards and intend to look at their photos later when I get my list of to do's done. I will share them here though. Just in case you al are interested in what I saw.

Holy Bananas, that was hard to close those windows! They are all so talented! One of them, I don't know who was who because I was much too shy to speak to these artists that inspired me so, had an old camera slung around her neck. It was shiny and silver with zig zagging metal strips on the side allowing the camera to compact itself when not in use. I wanted to ask about it, the age, what photos are taken with it, etc. I wanted to chat with all these gals and hand them my own Moo cards burning in my purse right next to Ruby hidden away because I was too shy to network. I may leave a comment or send an emal with my flickr URL. I will not think about it until after class tonight.
Tonight is Photography Class number two. I have to bring two good photos to be critiqued and one bad one. I will be able to find two good ones with some ease, but the bad one will be hard, there is just WAYYYY to much to choose from. Also this weekend I am attending a photo critique workshop with local photographers. The topic will be Aperture, Shutter speed, and ISO. I know what all these mean, but I am hoping for more depth on the subject. Also this weekend is my breathing workshop at the yoga studio. Two hours of breathing techniques for relaxation, digestion, and anxiety control. That is what my life has been like the last few days.
Todays to do list:
*upload photos from camera to the computer
*choose two good ones and a bad one
*clean kitchen so I can start making soap tomorrow
*unpack the overnight bag and start/finish one load of laundry
OH YEAH!!!
PLEASE send me your posts that you would like me to see or read, because after 5 days away, there is NO way I will ever get to all of them and get things done today.
Monday Mr. L got tickets to the minor league baseball team's last game of the season. We had really incredible seats, the business he works for buys season tickets in the box seats. They allow the employees sign up for games they would like to see, and they try to get everyone in once. Our tickets were for the last game of the season, they won too. We brought another family we know. We have known B for so long, longer than we have known each other. He met his gorgeous wife M in the Marines and they have 3 amazing boys. They seriously are some of the most well behaved children. The oldest boy really enjoyed the game, he is 9 now. The 4 year old loved the team mascot, Rhubarb. The youngest, 19 months loved the stairs. Haha! We had a great time.
Now, it is thursday and I have hardly done anything. But because I have been working more than normal my home does not look too bad. I need to make myself a schedule so I can fit all the things I want in a day. I need to walk early in the morning, but that habit will get harder and harder because it is now almost dark when we wake up. I need to hammer that out though. I need to make chunks of time for:
1. cleaning
2. blogging
3. walking
4. my programs on tv I like (the view, I know I know, they are crazy, but I can't quit them!)
5. creating
6. cooking dinner
7. yoga (studio opens this weekend!)
What a busy weekend!
Friday, I did my 15 minutes a room thing and was Very happy with the results. It is CRAZY what can be done in 15 minutes!
Saturday, Mr. Lavender and I awoke late and had a lovely late breakfast. Then he went for a run while I packed our overnight bags. We were driving 2 1/2 + hours to attend Mr. L's aunts wedding. She is Mormon so we were not allowed to attend the ceremony, but they had a ring ceremony for the rest of the family. It was Lovely. They both have grown children and myriads of grandchildren. Between them they have 11 children and grandchildren, well there was a chocolate fountain so they were not still enough for me to count. Haha! It is nice seeing the way that her new husband looks at her, they are so in love and it is Gorgeous! We left the reception after helping put all the chairs and such away and drove the rest of the way down to Portland to stay the night at Heartshapedsky's house. We have been friends since High school. We chatted a while about the wedding, the olympics, then crashed after a late night dinner from the Tin shed. Yum!
Sunday, Woke up bright and early, looking outside to see the sun was out in Portland. Lovely. We began our day at our fave breakfast spot in Portland, it is a place we eat breakfast at every time we are there. I had a hearty bowl of oatmeal and those fried potatoes, oh my those things are SO good! Mr. Lavender had a garden egg scramble with fresh locally grown broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, etc., fresh locally made coffee, Heartshaped sky had cherry chocolate chip vegan pancake, vegan tofu scramble, I cannot remmeber what Mr. heartshaped sky had, but it included a large cup of Gorgeous fresh fruit, and Heartshaped sky Jr. had Circle Toast (bagel, but circle toast sounds much cuter) We then jetted up to Mt. Tabor Park. Oh Goodness it was beautiful! We played on the park toys, I was trying to convince Mr. Lavender we needed a Teeter Totter in our back yard. I have not played on a teeter totter with someone close to my own weight since I was a kid, and DAMN it was SO FUN! We teetered and Tottered for a good 15 minutes, then we were off for a nice kike through the trails. Beautiful! Really really. I will have pictures later, they are all still in Ruby. She is pretty full with the park and the wedding. Then we went back to the playground to play with the child and Mr. Lavender made himself motion sick on the swings. We are getting so old. Haha! We walked along some street in Portland but Mr. L could not handle it much longer, he needed a nap to sleep off his swings adventure. The boys took a nap while Heartshaped sky and I walked down to a close set of shops with very cute things inside. I was good people! I saw wonderful things that I wanted, but did not buy because I doid not need them and do not have room for any more cute things. I did buy some gorgeous striped socks at Sock Dreams, if it is one thing that makes me happy, it is striped socks. They are just a little bit of joy to know I have pink and blue stripes on my feet. I will be 80 years old and wearing striped socks. Why not? It is just littel bits of joy wrapped around my feet and calf.
We then decided it was time to head back, the cats had not been fed, and they should be getting restless. We began our drive and found traffic, lots of still slow traffic. We are not sure what created the slowing, but a three hour drive turned into over 4 hours. We laughed at silly things like signs that read "eat here.....get gas" and at the man who could not hold it until the next rest stop peeing on the side of the freeway.
just now I recieved a call from my sister. I cannot continue with what I was saying. A woman who has been such a wonderful part of my family has passed away. She was my sisters best friends mother, she was everybodies mother. Her husband married both mr. Lavender and I and My sister and her husband. She was the most soothing, sweet, calm, lovely, beautiful, loving, caring, kind, passionate, person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Her daughter is getting married after living with her fiance for over 8 years next summer. Devistation. I feel so heavy right now. I am signing off for the day. My condolences go out to her family, they are so tight, unlike any family I have ever met. They are a pattern of what I hope for my marriage. Marie, I LOVE you! And I will miss you SO MUCH!
I feel like I just woke up, I am so sluggish and sleepy. I fell back asleep after Mr. Lavender left for work. I slept until 10. I had dreams of me sleeping on my couch and some teenage kids trying to open my front door to steal my stuff while I slumbered. It was one of those dreams where I was trying to wake up and answer the door but could not see anything while I walked about. I was very dizzy and could not focus. I hate those dreams, they leave me feeling so disoriented when I wake up. In my dream they were after my camera. Hmmm... now Ruby is in my dreams. Haha!
This weekend was a busy one. Thursday Lucy and her children came over so we could work on our book. Then we went to the park where we were hassled by beggar geese.
Then on Sunday I met with 3 voxers and we had a marathon photo stroll. That story will be later. I took several hundred pictures. I need to go through them and edit, delete, etc.
Husband woke up early to get started earlier, so while he went running in the woods, I went and checked in on the ducks, It was so pretty. Already warm, but not bad. My favorite roses are blooming, next week they will be able to be smelled from a block away. The sweet scent is SO nice!
Next we went to the Farmers Market, we bought Tomato plants, strawberry plants, and Basil plants. Does anyone know what kind of light they need, we forgot to ask. OOops! We also bought a bundle of asparagus for some roasted asparagus pasta. Yummy! We then went to the hardware store. The whole towns lights were out, traffic lights and all. Apparently someone hit a telephone pole with their car. So we could not get a few things due to the fact that half of the store was blocked off. We did get a couple more plants, some flowers for a planter I have and some potting soil. While in line someone ditched a flower called the Wallflower on a shelf that only held a few fans. The fans sold quickly with out little heat wave. There she was, the Wallflower, ditched just before the cash register. I picked her up and planted her with the poppies. I have no idea what she will look like when she blooms. I bet she is beautiful! ;-)I somehow got a sunburn in a strange pattern on my arm. I must have missed a spot with the sunscreen then put it on extra thick in a few other spots. Bought new sunscreen at the store. Not much happened this weekend, regular boring old life. I like it that way.
Tonight is the last photography class. We have to bring in our favorite photo we have taken while we were in class, tell the class why we liked it, what we learned in class that helped create this image. I hate public speaking. HATE it! I am SO nervous! Even though it is only a few people, people I am somewhat comfortable talking to. I am not satisfied with my choice, maybe I will take a walk and see what I can find. Maybe something better than what I have. sigh...
Mr. Lavender drove up to Seattle to meet with Lucy to see where we are on our project. I got some great ideas for photographs via Lucy's dreams. How Great is That? I met her wonderful family, her husband kept the kids busy while we chatted. Her toddler sat with us for a while. I swear that little girl is a fairy hiding her wings.
I have been pacing around my house not starting anything. I need to do so much, but I have yet to wake up fully. It is almost 3 in the afternoon. I am really tired. Husband and I went to our favorite park and stomped through the woods. It was very fun and very cold. I slept so heavy last night, and wished I still was. I should take a nap, but the clothes in the dryer will be done soon, and I don't want them to wrinkle. sigh...then maybe I will take a nap.
We watched a couple of our netflix movies this weekend.
First we watched Eagle Vs. Shark it was delightful! Funny and oh so sweet!
It is like the New Zealand version of Napoleon Dynamite, but sweeter. We laughed a lot. That is always good. It stars one of the guys from Flight of the conchords, which is a completely enjoyable show.
We then watched a documentary called Maxed Out. This is a movie about credit card debt. When I put this in my DVD player the last thing I expected was for this movie to make me cry. I did. It broke my heart. I always thought that credit card companies were evil, but damn.....
We did a lot of laying around on Sunday, which was really nice. Napping, waking up, then napping again. I did make it to the camera shop and I held a few cameras. I think my mind is made up, and I will get to order it next week. I am registering for Spring photography classes at the local community college. I am very excited!
This is the song that has been stuck in my head all night long. It is from the Movie Once. I am SO loving this soundtrack / album!
