Funny you should run this, I have posted about Philabundance.org recently and I give to them every year before Thanksgiving. This year I heard their food banks are WAY low which makes me sad. I am giving a little more this year I think, and in the recent newsletter I got from them, they said they need volunteers. A couple of the locations are pretty close to me (one where my last apartment was, even) and I was thinking about volunteering. I think I will contact the volunteer coordinator and see what I can schedule. It sucks (for everyone) because this is such a busy time of year (and traffic makes life miserable) and time is short but I know I can find time to help out a little. I have been meaning to get involved volunteering for something meaningful for a while now. thanks for the nudge.

Good for you and have fun!

*hug* Thank you for giving back! =)
What a generous couple you Lav. I grew up in a house where I never knew hunger. The parents lived on a tight budget, but my mother managed to fix meals with what she had. One of the meals that she fixed was 'bean burger'. The poor southerner's substitute for sloppy joe's. When my kids were little, I fed the 3 of us on $25 a week. They were introduced to things like 'barbecued butterflies', and as both of them have said, they never knew I didn't have money and they never went hungry. Kudos to you and Mr. Lav.
Did I mention how much I like the shots you posted today? No??? Well, I love the shots today.
Indeed, thank you for giving back to the community. Paying it forward is beautiful and so important (I feel) for the soul. In these very painful times of instability, fear and losses, it is incumbent upon those who have to be aware of those who do not and to help in some way. Some way. Even if it is a dollar to a homeless person on the street, the spirit of giving and helping is SO important right now. Our society has become sooooo self-absorbed, too many people (NOT you) have forgotten about the cares and troubles of others. I am grateful there are people like you and Mr. LOIL. Often it's the people who came from the worst backgrounds who are the kindest and the compassionate.
I was interviewed and I will be put on the schedule for December. I am glad I can do it. It is crazy how high jobless rates are going, more and more people are going to need help.
I have to thanks those who gave when I was a kid somehow!
And Kudos to you for nourishing your children with so little. It does take some serious creativity to do what you did. That bean burger actually sounds really good!
Oh! Thanks! These were all down in Portland
The old saying "it takes on to know one" kind of applies here. I know hunger pains and I am in a place right now to help soften those for someone else. It turns out that I will be working a couple times a month, for a three hour stretch. Six hours a month... seems like so little. I am also on call because I do live so close. Our new President is also inspirational with this, he said that he needs help from all of us in our own communities, and I am ready to do my part. ;-) I want to be a participant in my community.

What a compassionate person you are, Lavender. You also make me grateful that I have a family who helps me out when times are tough. I've also known what it's like to go hungry and I want to help people who are in that situation now. I wonder if there's something we could do on Vox to bring more attention to the situation. Hmm. Thank you for posting about this--it's an important issue that should be addressed.
Thanks Renee, it is a serious issue, I am not sure what we could do to bring more awareness. I think people don't think that $10 can help, but if 20 poeople give $10 THAT does make a difference!

What goes around comes around & pay it forward are both good principle to live by you never know who you may be helping, it is the act of helping it’s self which is good! Even though we have a very good benefit system here, we still have food donation boxes that I give to when I can at the local supermarket I wish I had time but I’m stretched rather thin as it is at the moment but one day I hope to be able to give more than just tins!

We were always lucky enough to have just enough food, but I know my foster brothers family didn’t and we would often help them out when we could (this was before he became my foster brother, it’s complicated) Seeya hugya *G*

Ps love the photos as usual your having such blue skies at the moment I’m jealous!

you'll love it lavender - I volunteer one day a week at the old peoples home and it is so much fun - I love it
The people seemed really nice, I plan on smiling a lot.
I have never been in a place to help before. Everyone is SO strapped right now, it is frightening. They just announced another 5400 jobs lost in Seattle today. Stores are not hiring the masses for the holiday rush because the masses are not shopping, because there are fewer and fewer jobs available. I just want to help because I can.
Yep think it's the same here, give help were we can & prays were we can't no matter what people's faith or belief i think it all helps! your a good egg seeya honey *G*
Thanks! As long as we are aware of the help that is needed and keep these people in our prayers if we cannot give anything else, that is Awesome! Ignoring the issue and thinking these people just need to work harder, that is not okay.
