All or Nothing

Jeez I do wish we could all get along. In my Bible one of the last things Jesus said was "Love One Another" Orgignised religion suck.
Good points, Lavender.
I think that the whole "separation of church & state" thing should be observed, that way you wouldn't have a bunch of groups trying to make THEIR point of view seem more valid than anyone else's. We'd never be happy allowing Satanists or groups like that to put up their opinion next to other mainstream religions --- so get the religion aspect OUT of government, like it's supposed to be. We're supposed to be "one nation under God" --- but whose God??? I think the 2 (religion/government) should be completely seperate.
It is sad that we cannot get along. I find it somewhat ironic that Christmas is really a pagan holiday, complete with icons such as a Christmas tree, etc. Of course, in my mind, it is the birth of Jesus, and any celebrating I do is for that. I think that we should be one nation under God. One of the problems in the middle east is a lack of tolerance for differences. Where it comes to a public building, then all views should be displayed.
I think what you put is quite correct and I wholeheartedly agree. I dont know why we all cant just get along. Nobody seems to realise that in our own way no matter what religion we follow we are all celebrating the same thing really, if not why do most relgious festivals fall within weeks of each other. For example today is Eid for the Muslims, Myself Ill be celebrating Yule a few days before Christmas day. Im interested in the Atheist symbol, I dont think I have ever seen one before, what does it look like?

Hear, hear lavender! I couldn't agree more. I am so tired and over the "fight" to put Christmas on all things holiday during this season. Honestly, don't these people have better fights to fight? Couldn't the time and energy dispensed arguing and blustering about it be better served doing good works in one's community?

Exactly!!! This is what I learned from the bible too.
I SOOO agree with you! Thanks!
Agreed Skyrat! We really do need to make sure our own faith is secure enough so that you can read a sign like that and just keep walking. It should not shake you from your own faith, if it does you have bunches of things to work out. Be secure in your own faith I guess. That is all, just find security in your own.

I think if the religious groups can put up signs, so can the atheists, who celebrate a secular holiday. Still maybe a World Peace sign would have been a better choice. I, for one, don't believe atheists should proselytize. It seems counter-productive to the philosophy. Atheism is a considered choice and not something one is converted to, so signs are meaningless.
Thank You! I was a little scared posting my views here, but what the heck! Haha! I am not that scary! Happy Yule, I am unaware of what Yule is. All I know is the Yule log, but am quite foggy on the details of that. You are right, all faiths really celebrate things very closely related to each other.
The Atheist symbol was nothing more than a sign stating their beliefs above. Not as pretty as the nativity scene, holiday tree, or the menorah.
It should be a much more personal holiday, more quiet. But the consumerism part of it will not let the holiday season be silent and personal. So we all need to deal with the overcrowding, and be kind!
A world Peace sign!!! That is a Perfect idea! Now make it and get down there dear! Hahah! My father is an atheist, still sounds funny coming from his mouth.

Well im pagan and Yule is the Winter Solstice

I'm afraid someone will take my sign and beat me over the head with it. Truly, I am.
Olympia, along with California the grossest creators of Political Correctness this side of the Rockies, made the mistake of opening itself to displays of *all* faiths. And now they've created for themselves and us a mess. Should've left things alone. Christmas tree. End of story. Damn WA politicians and their political correctness!
Oh for heaven's sake, where do these people come from? I think that it really comes down to love. Love. Love. The rest is unimportant.
Oh, I agree. Live and let live.
It seems the organized religious people were just antagonized by the atheists, and the atheists knew they'd razz some rabbles. It IS a christian holiday. Doh.

That being said, I think they should keep creches off public property. Put them on the church lawns where they belong.

My computer is on its last legs too Lav. I'm just trying to find what would be best to replace it. It has to be photoshop friendly, good HD display, lots of ram and a laptop. I cannot/willnot use a desktop! haha

Sorry about your virus, I hate when that happens, but what are you going to buy? hehe!
Ah! Thanks! You know when I was a kid, I was a jehovahs witness, and Pagan was about as bad as you could get! I was so scared of Pagans, because they made it sound so disgusting. But as an adult, from what I know (not much) it seems like such a peaceful and loving philosophy. So kind to the planet and others. Hah!
you are right, you better stay home. Haha!
Haha! you know if they never said anything in the papers or the news nobody would even know! Hahah! did you hear, they are putting up a festivus pole, you know, from seinfeld. Haha!
Absolutely! Hey, they are putting up a festivus pole today, the Seinfeld made up holiday? Haha!
it takes so much energy to make those signs, and get all worked up, so why not just stay in your jammies? That is more appealing to me! Haha!
The atheists are celebrating the winter solstice, the Jewish are celebrating Chanukah, Christians have Christmas, and then there is Festivus for the rest of us. Seriously, a festivus pole is going in today
Oh and we bought this Mac that is SO tiny! So we are switching to Mac totally, the laptop is mac. Mr.L bought it last night. Love the xmas promos for fast free shipping!
I'd put a festivus pole up too, but I don't feel like decorating yet. HAHA!

Did you find switching to Mac difficult? Have you ever used one before? I haven't. My kids grew up with Macs in the classroom, but I've only ever used a PC. How is the display? I want to know how you feel about it for photo-editing too! :))
This is a Mac household. C is a big Mac guy and when he taught technology at the seminary, he brought in all Macs for the students (they had been using Dell's/Windows, which always crashed, or had failed batteries or some virus or other issue). I love it. We have a G5 iMac (21"screen, on which we watch movies, since we have no TV), 15" Macbook Pro, and an iPhone 3G. You should get Apple Care, 3 year extended support. It does add to your costs, but we had our display replaced on our iMac, literally 7 days before the extended support ran out and it is the only time we have used our applecare, but it was worth it, as a new screen would have been $1000 or more. C has known 65yr olds+ who have made the switch with no problems. My folks now have a Mac, and mum used to call C all the time with troubles, and now she never calls. Oh, and ichat is the best!
okay, well I will let you know. It should be here by this weekend. I think I am still going to have picassa on the mac machine, so that will be the same I assume. I hope. I am not sure I will see the differences, I don't do very much on the computer. It will take some time to get used to it.
Hi Karen, this is C - Jax asked me to pitch in here and I'm not near my own laptop at the moment. Macbook, Macbook Pro, and iMac screens are among the best in the industry. I hope that doesn't sound too much like a fanboi boast, but I had used and supported Windows in academia for almost 15 years before re-discovering the Mac in 2003 and switching back. It's just the truth. As for photo editing, I still do a ton of visual design work and use my Macbook Pro with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 and Creative Suite 3 and it's the bomb (that means 'good' in archaic teen-speak, according to my nephew). Apple's own iPhoto now supports pretty hefty non-destructive photo editing, and it'll come with any new Mac you buy. And if you want to up the ante, Apple's Aperature competes well with Adobe's Lightroom. So: go for it!
our laptop is a mac, and that is why we are getting the mac computer. Mr. L is tired of dealing with the PC. We will be totally mac by next week.
One thing about it - a person secure in their own faith doesn't have to fight with people of different faiths. That proves nothing.
what about everything I have on the PC? will it be transferable to a Mac? documents, photo's, bookmarks, email addresses etc?

i have the ipod touch 32g, you don't have to sell me on Apple's brilliance. This is just a tough decision.
were you able to just open it up and use it? or is it like learning a foreign language?
hey lav, upload a couple pics to the macbook, tell me what you think about the display... pretty please with sugar
I don't know how to do that on the laptop. Will wait for Mr. L to get home and try.
{rolls eyes} why does that not surprise me?
does the mac have a usb port?
Lots of great food for thought, Lav. Often I think Christians choose to "fight" about the wrong thing(s).
Too many hypocrites in the world. I've heard about this stuff...it made it all the way to Fark

We did the tivo thing with an old computer it's awesome best thing ever! Sorry about computer hope you backed up it's a hard lesson to learn I remember it well! I personnel don't believe in a god or spiritual being that is a hater I think that is a people thing projecting on to & reading they're own hang ups onto & into a situation. As far as I can work out humans are the only species that have revenge & justice as principles! love the heart bokeh seeya hugya *G*

Haha! We are a politically correct bunch with a twisted sense of humor. Haha! I don't understand how the Festivus pole is okay (it literally mocks the holidays) but the atheist sign, that is offensive.
yes, it has two ports. I was thinking of taking pictures of myself in different holiday outfits to have people vote on their faves. I have to get all dressed up this weekend. I always get so nervous.
I agree. There are horrid things in this world, and fighting a sign representing someone elses views. I choose to fight hunger in my community, to help save the farms, to try and be a good person. It is a very small group of Christians protesting this sign, I know that the vast majority of the Christians I know would se and read that sign and think to themselves how Lucky they are to have their faith. It is a nice thing to lean on. ;-)
Ha! Bill O'Reilly is having a heart attack over the whole thing, haha! Really? Is it Really that big of a deal? We are in two wars, our economy is in the toilet, people are starving, our education system stinks.... and a sign in the Washington State capitol building is what we are upset about? Ha!
I can't wait to get the free tivo type thing! It is true, we should just live and let live, but we are a cruel species... that would never work.
Thanks!!
Don't you love Americans?
Some I really truly do, I have met lots of really wonderful ones here, but in my area, not so many. Haha!
Hehehe. Too often, we hear the stories about the bad ones and not enough about the good ones!
@Karen - I'm a Mac-er from day one, I don't do that other system. If you need some help, wave a hand. Or maybe a PM is better. ;) I'll help in any way I can.
Thank you gf, but I guess I am a PC girl for life. haha...I ALMOST bought an apple!
Almost? I am not so keen on the apple photo editing thing. But that is why I would have picassa on there. ;-)
Yeah, the boneheads always make the news. I am not complaining really sometimes boneheads can be quite entertaining!
it's a minority of serious photographers who'd use applephoto as the main software. PhotoShop and etc. are better.
Yep. Almost did it. But the miser in me wouldn't allow me to pay an extra 2k for an Apple. I am really happy with my new HP!
yes, I was not impressed, Mr. L will install picassa for me again.
haha! We paid less than 1k on ours.
good move. since i don't have a digital camera, i've no need for photo software. those occasions i've needed iphoto, i've gone "blah."
Yeah, there really are no bells or whistles to iphoto. Just waiting for Mr. L to get the computers all situated. I miss flickr! Haha!
hey, speaking of flickr, you have tons of pictures up there, so all is not lost. have you had a quote to try and recover your stuff?
Mr. L is doing it all. He is computer savvy, but he does not have a whole lot of time. So he works on it a little each night when he comes home from work. He has it all backed up on something.
Oh I am so glad to hear you haven't lost your photographs! YAY!
