It's like there are little nuggets of molten gold in that leaf! There is such beauty there - I refuse to believe that it is a dead thing.

I think that fall/winter's shorter days are because the surroundings are so full of beauty, if we had any more daylight to enjoy them or any more warmth, we might explode with joy -or- take them for granted. So the shorter days, the cold... the malaise creeping into our bones... it's to allow us to appreciate the gorgeousness that surrounds us.

...or some such irrational explanation... something to get through this, right? ;)

Anyhow, this is stunning (as are all your photos - but I'm particularly taken by this one).

Now imagine a whole path filled with these, it was like natures version of the yellow brick road. ;-)
